Nate Schmold
Since 1996 Nate has been creating strange electronic music fused with head-nodding beats & laced with off-the-wall vocals reminiscent of Beck, Gorillaz, or that martian opera singer in The Fifth Element. He has utilized his original sound on multiple albums, film scores and video game soundtracks, and has worked as a songwriter and producer with countless other musicians.
I began teaching myself to play classical guitar right before the pandemic hit. I fell in love with the therapeutic process of practicing as it was so different from the past 20-25 years of creating computer music. I put my heart on my sleeve for this fragile, personal EP.
Ghost Cartridge is the first full length album by the collaborative project between me and Scott (The EquAzn) Lee. Combining our skills and 20+ years of collaboration, we brought together an entire album of forward-thinking hip hop beats and rhymes. This album reached as high as #7 on the national hip hop charts and #1 on the CJSW top 30.
Using synthesizers, guitars and a smattering of loop, reverb and delay pedals, I concocted this reflection on my life. Each song serves as a weird little sonic window into a phase of my life up to this point.
The latest instalment of my 'Ghost Cartridge' project. This time with a 4-track EP of strange and unusual instrumental electronic/hip hop beats.
For $10 each I record the worst jingles you've ever heard, and wonder why people keep coming back for more. 600+ Horrible Jingles bought & paid for since 2010!
My last full-length album as "Mantrakid". Written as an homage to becoming a new father in 2009 and all the thoughts and emotions that accompanied it.
Summing up some feelings of professional disillusionment, I wrote, produced and sang this piece for my 'Ghost Cartrige' project.
An entire album of glitchy, distorted, experimental beats for the glitchy, distorted, experimental game "Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000"
The debut EP from my "Ghost Cartridge" collaboration with The EquAzn, a longtime emcee collaborator from Calgary, AB. We put physics in the music section.
If i was going to ever win a Grammy, it would have been for this album. Its the closest I ever came to pop, and still one of my proudest achievements.
An ongoing experimental ambient, electronic, downtempo radio show incorporating time travel, future technologies and interstellar radio interference.
I worked with electronic musicians Ilkae & Zebra to create the soundtrack for the indie game Cosmochoria.
I edit, mix, produce & occasionally write music for this weekly YouTube 'podcast' featuring beautiful poetry readings and accompanying thoughts by Ross Stephanson.
I was commissioned to create the beats & music to Ricca Razor Sharp's deeply personal album Expression Music. I still consider these beats to be some of my very best.
Post-Mantrakid. During a transitionary phase when I became disillusioned with lyricism, I produced this mix-tape / remix album of some of my very favourite Missy Elliott tracks.
Written, recorded and released within 1 week, this album pays homage to Zappa using a technique he pioneered—Xenochrony—wherein bits and pieces of his entire back catalogue were sampled & spliced out of context to create this beat tape.
